HELPING THE ARCHIPELAGO OF SAN ANDRÉS, PROVIDENCIA AND SANTA CATALINA
November 24, 2020
The powerful hurricane IOTA caused great damage in Central and South America, being more specific, in Venezuela, Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama. In Colombia, IOTA passed near the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. In Providencia, the passage of the hurricane destroyed 98% of homes and infrastructure, leaving more than 5,000 inhabitants without a decent house to spend the following days. Providencia Island was practically erased from the map after the passage of IOTA that even with all the destruction, miraculously the inhabitants were saved, although they have lost everything material.
For this reason and being spectators of the difficult and sad situation that our compatriots were going through in the archipelago, we decided from Fundación Lejaim (Lejaim Foundation) to join forces to send aid and contribute to the restoration of these areas affected by the hurricane. We were very fortunate to find a network of helpers with which we were able to join and support this cause, Fi Providence, which works together with the Armada Nacional (National Navy), Reserva Naval del Pacífico (Pacific Naval Reserve) and Equipo Scout de Emergencia (Emergency Scout Team).
On Monday, November 23, 2020, the Lejaim Life for Life Foundation – NGO made the official delivery of aid for those affected by Hurricane IOTA; and these aids consisted of 634 garments for men, women, boys and girls; 32 pairs of crocs shoes and sandals and medicines of first necessity.
We want to thank all the people and entities that made this possible and inform them that from the Lejaim Foundation we continue working to help more and more people.
